Revolutionising liver cancer treatment
We are HepaSwitch, an interdisciplinary scientific project being developed by students from four
Warsaw Universities representing Poland at iGEM (MIT) 2025 – the world’s most prestigious
synthetic biology competition.

Targeted
therapy
More effective treatment with fewer side effects, based on use of synthetic biology methods.

Specialised software
Personalized therapy based on biopsy results, enabled by software developed by bioinformaticians.

Educational Activities
Workshops and a mobile game with attractive prizes about synthetic biology in high schoolsers.

Human Practices
Promotion of science and healthy lifestyle, and engagement in conversations with patients and doctors.

iGEM (International Genetically Engineered Machine)
„The iGEM Competition gives students the opportunity to push the boundaries of synthetic biology by tackling everyday issues facing the world. Multidisciplinary teams work together to design, build, test, and measure a system of their own design using interchangeable biological parts and standard molecular biology techniques. iGEM teams work inside and outside the lab, creating sophisticated projects that strive to create a positive contribution to their communities and the world.”
The Team
The project is being developed by students of biotechnology, medicine, bioinformatics, and media logistics from four different universities in Warsaw: the University of Warsaw (UW), the Medical University of Warsaw (WUM), the Warsaw University of Technology (PW), and the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW).
